Holiday Concert 2014

Chamber for a Cause held its annual holiday concert for seniors citizens at The Cliffs at Eagle Rock on December 20, 2014. On this cold Saturday night, our members brought warmth and holiday spirit to the residents at the assisted living home.

The concert opened with co-president Christina Qiu's solo piano piece, "Variations in D Major" by Mozart. Other classical pieces such as Haydn's Quartet Op. 77, No. 1, Haydn's London Trio, and cello duets by Haydn, Telemann, and Gabrielli were interspersed between jazzy arrangements of traditional holiday tunes that the audience gladly sang along to, and a beautiful arrangement of "Over the Rainbow." After the concert, our members had a great time talking individually to each of the audience members, taking pictures, and giving hugs. This is what Chamber for a Cause strives for--not only musical enrichment for our members, but also to bring joy to the lives of others. In our future performances, we hope to do the same and use music to brighten somebody else's day!
--Jeanna Qiu, President

Inner Voice's Coffee House

Members of the Inner Voice's club at Livingston High School graciously invited Chamber for a Cause members to perform at its Coffee House, where students enjoyed peer recitations and live music on November 24, 2014. The members of the Inner Voice's club at Livingston High are the editors of the school's literary magazine--a booklet that features the school's best creative writing pieces.

"Over the Rainbow," "Suite No. 1 Allemande," "Suite No. 2 Prelude," "Canon in D Gabrielli," "Haydn London Trio," and "Frosty the Snowman," were the songs performed by Chamber for a Cause musicians. With the music as a complement to the writing, the Coffee House was a success and the Chamber for a Cause organization was glad to be a part of it.

Art at the Oval 2014

Chamber for a Cause was fortunate enough to receive an invitation from our friends at the Arts Council of Livingston to perform at the community event, Art at the Oval on September 21, 2014. Held in the Oval near Robert Harp Drive, Art at the Oval is an outdoor art exhibit and sale sponsored by the Arts Council of Livingston featuring many local artists. It attracts many members of the community to enjoy an afternoon of art and music.

We performed many classical string quartets as well as pop favorites, such as "Over the Rainbow". Especially memorable were two groups of children who came to watch us and then began dancing to Haydn's London Trio in C Major! Our members quite enjoyed this opportunity to play and interact with the community and hopefully we will be able to attend next year!

In this inaugural season of Chamber for a Cause, we performed at various community events, at the request of the Arts Council of Livingston, including at the Art Gallery reception and for the Kiwanis Club of Livingston. In addition, we had regular seasonal concerts at The Cliffs at Eagle Rock, a local assisted living home in West Orange, NJ, once in December and once in June.

In the hyperlinked programs, one can see pictures of our members at rehearsals as well as the repertoire that we played this year. We are very excited to end our inaugural season on a great note, and look forward to our growth as an organization in our next season! We would like to thank all of our members for their dedication and the Arts Council of Livingston for all of their support and help. Please look forward to our 2014-2015 activities by keeping up with our blog!
